West Seattle Consignment Shop Target of Repeated Smash-and-Grab Burglaries

A beloved local consignment shop in West Seattle, Cherry Consignment, has been forced to navigate the aftermath of multiple high-impact commercial burglaries, demonstrating the severe vulnerability of neighborhood retail stores to property crime. The boutique has suffered at least three major break-ins over the span of three years, highlighting the aggressive tactics used by modern burglars.

One of the most destructive incidents occurred on February 27, 2024, when burglars utilized a vehicle to ram directly through the storefront. The "ram-raid" or smash-and-grab style burglary caused extensive structural damage to the entrance, leaving the shop boarded up and temporarily closed. Thanks to community support, the shop was able to clean up and reopen shortly after the crash. However, the respite was short-lived. In December 2025, Cherry Consignment was struck again. On December 4, 2025, both KING 5 and West Seattle Blog reported that the business had been hit for the third time in three years, with thieves once again forcing entry and ransacking the premises.

The shop owners and local advocates have called on city officials to install security bollards and increase nighttime police patrols along the commercial corridor. The high cost of repairing structural damage, coupled with rising insurance premiums and stolen merchandise, has placed a heavy burden on independent businesses like Cherry Consignment, raising broader questions about neighborhood security and retail resilience in Seattle.
