Stolen Forklift Used in Smash-and-Grab at Seattle BECU Branch
In a dramatic and highly destructive heist, suspects used a heavy forklift to execute a smash-and-grab at a Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU) branch in Seattle. The heavy machinery, which had been stolen from a construction site nearby, was driven directly into the financial institution's facade during the early hours of the morning.
The impact caused extensive structural damage to the BECU branch, shattering large glass panels and tearing through wall sections. Investigators believe the thieves targeted the building's automated teller machines (ATMs) or vault access areas, utilizing the forklift's power to breach secure enclosures. The suspects fled the scene before police officers arrived, leaving the running forklift abandoned in the middle of the debris.
Seattle police detectives and bank security personnel are reviewing surveillance footage from the branch and surrounding businesses to identify the individuals involved. The branch was temporarily closed to allow for structural assessments and cleanup efforts, highlighting the significant operational disruption caused by such heavy equipment smash-and-grabs.
