Active Burglary Investigation Forces Temporary Road Closure

A local burglary investigation caused minor traffic disruptions this week as law enforcement officers secured a crime scene to safely collect forensic evidence. According to local officials, a section of Loy Lake Road in Sherman, located just north of the Town Center, was temporarily shut down to active traffic.

Securing the Crime Scene

The road closure was initiated by deputies and investigators from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responding to a reported burglary in the immediate area. While specific details regarding the exact nature of the burglary and the type of property targeted have not been publicly released, the decision to close a public roadway indicates a significant response.

Law enforcement agencies will frequently secure a wide perimeter following a severe break-in. This extended perimeter serves two primary purposes: it ensures the physical safety of the public if officers are actively clearing a property where a suspect may still be hiding, and it protects a potentially large, exterior crime scene from contamination, allowing evidence technicians to meticulously search for tire tracks, discarded tools, or dropped stolen goods.

The Sheriff’s Office requested that all local drivers avoid the area while investigators processed the scene. The roadway has since been fully reopened to regular traffic, though the burglary investigation itself remains active and ongoing.

Maintaining Perimeter Security

The exterior of a property is the first line of defense against a burglary. By securing the perimeter of a home or business, residents can deter thieves before they ever reach the primary building structure:

  • Clear the Sightlines: Overgrown bushes and massive hedges near the road provide excellent concealment for burglars attempting to break into a property unseen. Trim all landscaping near windows and doors so that the home is clearly visible from the street, allowing passing patrols to easily spot suspicious activity.
  • Perimeter Lighting: Darkness is a burglar's greatest asset. Install high-intensity, motion-activated floodlights along the entire exterior perimeter of the property. Ensure the lights are mounted high enough that they cannot be easily unscrewed or broken by an intruder.
  • Fencing and Gates: A sturdy perimeter fence equipped with a locked gate forces a burglar to physically climb onto the property, creating noise and delaying their approach. Always keep primary driveway gates locked when the property is unoccupied.
