Safety and prevention tips at gas stations during night hours
Late-night visits to gas stations and convenience stores require heightened awareness. Security experts recommend the following safety tips to minimize risk:
- Stay alert and minimize distractions: Avoid looking at your phone or putting in headphones while pumping gas or walking to and from the store. Keep your head up and scan your surroundings.
- Park in well-lit areas close to the entrance: If visiting a gas station at night, park as close to the front doors as possible and under bright overhead lighting. Avoid parking in dark corners of the lot.
- Keep doors locked: Always lock your vehicle's doors immediately upon getting in or out, even if you are just stepping away for a moment to pay or pump gas.
- Trust your instincts: If you see someone loitering near the pumps or entrance who makes you feel uncomfortable, stay in your car and drive to another location or wait until they leave.
