FBI and Local Police Investigate Armed Bank Robbery in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Tennessee — An intensive investigation is underway following a daring, armed bank robbery at the Volunteer State Bank in Springfield on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Local police have partnered with federal agents to locate the perpetrator.

According to investigators, an unidentified suspect entered the bank branch during normal operating hours, approached a teller, and brandished a handgun. The suspect demanded money, indicating a willingness to use force. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the individual fled the scene, escaping on foot before vanishing from sight.

The Springfield Police Department immediately set up a perimeter, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was brought in to assist with the case. Fortunately, no bank employees or customers were injured during the encounter, though the staff remained shaken by the event.

“We are working closely with our federal partners to trace the suspect’s path and analyze all security footage,” said a police official. “This was a brazen act in broad daylight, and we are asking anyone who was in the area or noticed anything suspicious to contact us immediately.”
