Two Downtown Springfield Businesses Broken Into Over the Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, IL โ€” Commercial burglaries at two downtown Springfield businesses over the weekend have prompted investigations by local law enforcement. The incidents occurred at Daisy Janeโ€™s boutique, located on West Old State Capitol Plaza, and the nearby Custom Cup coffee shop on East Monroe Street, resulting in property damage and theft.

According to police and store records, the burglary at Daisy Janeโ€™s took place on Sunday evening, February 15, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Surveillance video showed an unidentified male suspect throwing a brick through the glass front door to gain entry. Once inside, the suspect ransacked the shop, knocked over displays, and stole the cash register, causing an estimated $1,500 in damages. The owner of the boutique, Julia Johnson, expressed frustration over the incident but thanked the community for their immediate support.

A second break-in occurred early Monday morning, February 16, at Custom Cup. Investigators believe the two incidents are linked due to matching details regarding the suspect's physical build and clothing. Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties is asking anyone with information or security camera footage from the downtown area to contact them or the Springfield Police Department.
