Teens Arrested for Armed Robbery of Family Leaving Stockton Middle School Promotion Ceremony
STOCKTON, California — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery targeting family members leaving an eighth-grade promotion ceremony at a Stockton middle school, police said.
The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, May 30, 2025, outside Delta Sierra Middle School on Wagner Avenue. According to the Stockton Police Department, a 31-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 13-year-old family member were walking to their vehicle after the graduation ceremony when they were approached by two suspects.
One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the gold necklaces the victims were wearing. Two of the victims complied and handed over their jewelry, while the third family member managed to flee the immediate area to seek help. The suspects then fled in a waiting vehicle.
Following an investigation, detectives identified and arrested 18-year-old Jaylin Rankins and a 16-year-old male accomplice. Both were booked on charges of robbery and conspiracy. The 16-year-old's name is being withheld due to his age.
No injuries were reported during the confrontation, which shocked attendees of the morning promotion ceremony. Police have recovered some of the stolen items and continue to investigate if the suspects were targeting attendees specifically.
