Masked Gunmen Kill Stockton Vendor in Robbery Attempt, Police Say

STOCKTON, California — A tragic shooting in Stockton has left a local vendor dead after a robbery attempt by masked gunmen, according to police authorities.

The violent encounter occurred on May 17, 2025, when the vendor was confronted by multiple masked suspects. Police reports indicate that the suspect or suspects attempted to rob the vendor, during which gunfire was exchanged or directed at the victim. Officers responding to the scene discovered the victim suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, the vendor succumbed to their injuries.

The Stockton Police Department's homicide unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are working to establish the sequence of events and identify the masked gunmen. The community has expressed deep sadness and anger over the loss of a hardworking local vendor who was simply trying to make a living.

“This is a devastating loss for our community. Vendors deserve to work in peace and safety without fearing for their lives,” said a community organizer during a local vigil.
