Three Arrested Following HCSO Traffic Stop on I-75 Linked to $137K Tampa Burglary

TAMPA, FL โ€” A coordinated investigation by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) has culminated in the arrest of three undocumented individuals connected to a series of high-value residential burglaries in the Tampa area.

The investigation began on Saturday, January 24, 2026, when HCSO deputies responded to a home on West Kenyon Avenue following reports of a break-in. Suspects had shattered a sliding glass door to gain entry to the residence. Once inside, they located and stole a personal safe containing jewelry and multiple firearms, with the total value of the stolen goods estimated at approximately $137,000. Just hours later, a second burglary occurred at a home on Osage Drive, located about five miles away, exhibiting similar methods of entry.

Utilizing surveillance footage captured at the crime scenes, detectives were able to identify a suspect vehicle. On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, deputies spotted the vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 75, near the Sun City Center Boulevard exit. A tactical traffic stop was initiated, resulting in the detainment and arrest of three occupants.

Suspects Identified and Charged

The three suspects apprehended during the traffic stop were identified as follows:

  • Juan Gabriel Caicedo Chasoy (39): The driver of the vehicle, arrested for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license. Investigations revealed Chasoy was subject to an active final order of deportation.
  • Jhon Alex Riasco Vergara (33): A passenger who initially presented deputies with a fraudulent identification card. Vergara was charged with Armed Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling, Grand Theft, and possession of false identification.
  • Third Unidentified Suspect: Taken into custody and detained alongside the other two individuals.

All three suspects were placed on detainer holds by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to their undocumented status. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the quick action of the deputies, emphasizing that the Sheriffโ€™s Office remains dedicated to protecting residents and keeping dangerous criminals off the streets.
