Toledo Man Shot During Attempted Gun Sale on East Central Avenue; Two Arrested
TOLEDO, Ohio — A meeting arranged for an informal gun sale took a violent turn on East Central Avenue on July 28, 2025, leaving one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds and two individuals behind bars on charges of aggravated robbery.
According to Toledo Police, the victim had arranged to meet with the suspects to conduct a private sale of a firearm. However, shortly after meeting on East Central Avenue, the transaction escalated into an armed confrontation. The suspects reportedly attempted to rob the victim of the firearm and other personal belongings.
Shooting and Emergency Response
During the altercation, one of the suspects fired a handgun, striking the victim. The suspects then fled the scene with the stolen items. Emergency responders arrived shortly after receiving 911 calls from nearby residents who reported hearing gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were determined to be serious but non-life-threatening.
Suspects Tracked and Apprehended
Toledo Police officers launched an immediate investigation and, utilizing witness statements and digital evidence, located the two suspects within hours of the shooting. Both individuals were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault. They were booked into the Lucas County Jail and are awaiting their arraignments.
Authorities have warned the public about the extreme dangers of arranging private sales of weapons or high-value items in non-secure environments. The Toledo Police Department recommends utilizing designated "Safe Exchange Zones," typically located in well-lit parking lots of police stations, to prevent similar robberies and violent encounters.
