Toledo Homeowner Fires Shots at Burglary Suspect Exposing Himself on Doorstep

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Police Department is investigating an unusual and alarming attempted home invasion in South Toledo that ended with a homeowner firing shots at a suspect. The incident unfolded early in the morning of May 15, 2026, in the 800 block of Woodsdale Avenue.

According to police, a homeowner was awakened shortly before 4:45 a.m. by his dogs barking frantically. When the resident went to investigate the noise at his front door, he observed a man on his doorstep who appeared to be attempting to break into the house. Shockingly, the suspect was also actively exposing himself. Fearing for his safety and the security of his home, the resident retrieved a firearm and fired several shots through the door area toward the suspect.

The suspect immediately fled the scene on foot, and it is currently unknown if any of the shots struck him. Toledo Police officers arrived shortly after and searched the surrounding area, but no suspects were located. Hospitals and local clinics have been notified to report any patients arriving with unexplained gunshot wounds. TPD continues to investigate both the attempted burglary and the public indecency aspects of the incident.
