Owner Tied Up in Dupont Circle Jewelry Store Robbery Attempt; Officer Shoots Suspect

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A jewelry store owner experienced a terrifying ordeal in Dupont Circle when suspects tied him up during a daytime robbery attempt, which ended with a police officer shooting one of the suspects.

The incident occurred on May 2, 2025, in the bustling commercial corridor of Dupont Circle in Northwest Washington. According to the shop owner, the robbers entered the premises, quickly overpowered him, and bound him to prevent him from calling for help. As the robbery unfolded, law enforcement was alerted to the ongoing crime.

An officer working a specialized "Safe Passage" detail—designed to increase safety and police visibility in designated areas—responded immediately to the scene. The officer encountered the fleeing suspects near the store. During the confrontation, the officer discharged their weapon, striking one of the robbery suspects.

The wounded suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment under police custody. The jewelry store owner, though shaken and suffering from minor injuries from being bound, is expected to recover fully. MPD is continuing to investigate the robbery attempt and the officer-involved shooting.
