Chaos at CityCenterDC: Attempted Robbery at Chanel Store Uses Fire Extinguisher Distraction

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A brazen attempted heist unfolded at the luxury Chanel boutique in Northwest D.C. on Friday afternoon, causing panic among shoppers as suspects used a fire extinguisher to execute a chaotic distraction.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, four suspects entered the high-end retailer located in the upscale CityCenterDC shopping district. Once inside, one of the suspects discharged a fire extinguisher, filling the store with a thick cloud of chemical powder. The intentional distraction was designed to blind security staff and create enough confusion for the group to grab luxury handbags and merchandise.

Despite the chaotic scene and chemical haze, the robbery attempt was ultimately unsuccessful. The suspects fled the store empty-handed before officers arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported, though staff and customers were shaken by the sudden commotion. D.C. Police are reviewing high-resolution security footage from the store and surrounding streets to identify the four individuals involved in the incident.
