Repeated Target: D.C. Jewelry Store Hit by Second Smash-and-Grab in Three Months, Rolexes Stolen
Detectives in Washington, D.C., are investigating a pattern of high-value commercial burglaries after a local jewelry store was hit by a second smash-and-grab robbery in less than three months. The repeat targeting of the business has raised serious alarms regarding security and organized retail crime in the nation's capital.
First Heist: Over $200,000 in Rolexes Stolen
The initial burglary took place on February 24, 2024. During this incident, suspects executed a swift smash-and-grab operation, specifically targeting luxury timepieces. Investigators confirmed that nine Rolex watches, with a combined retail value exceeding $200,000, were stolen during the heist. The thieves managed to breach the store's display cases and escape before law enforcement could arrive on the scene.
Second Break-in Within Three Months
On May 19, 2024, the same establishment was subjected to another brazen smash-and-grab. The suspects utilized similar tactics, shattering display cases to plunder the store's inventory. MPD is currently reviewing surveillance footage from both incidents to determine if they were executed by the same crew or if the store was specifically targeted by different groups capitalizing on perceived security vulnerabilities.
The Metropolitan Police Department has called on the public to assist in identifying the suspects, emphasizing that luxury goods are often quickly resold on secondary black markets.
