WICHITA, Kansas — A heavy police and SWAT presence descended on a west Wichita neighborhood Sunday morning, leading to the arrest of three individuals following a violent armed home invasion and robbery on the city's south side.
SWAT Encircles West Wichita Home
Wichita Police Department officers responded early Sunday morning, January 12, 2025, to reports of a violent home burglary that occurred in the 1000 block of South Ellis Street. During the burglary, victims were bound, assaulted, and robbed of their belongings. Using tracking technology from stolen property, officers were able to trace the suspects to a home in the 13,600 block of West Nantucket, near 13th Street and 135th Street West.
Upon arrival, occupants inside the residence refused to comply with commands to exit, leading officers to establish a perimeter and call in the SWAT unit. Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place or avoid the area during the standoff.
Three Detained, Search Continues for Two Others
After several hours of negotiations, SWAT officers successfully breached the home and took three suspects into custody. However, police officials noted that two additional suspects linked to the initial home invasion remain at large.
"Our SWAT team worked diligently to resolve the standoff peacefully," a department spokesperson said at the scene. "While we have three suspects in custody, our investigation is very active as we seek to locate the remaining individuals involved in this violent crime."
Anyone with information regarding the location of the outstanding suspects or the burglary is urged to contact Wichita Police investigators at 316-268-4407 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
