Delaware State Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Newport Gap Pike Family Dollar

WILMINGTON, DE — Detectives with the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Wilmington-area Family Dollar store. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2025, at the retail location situated at 1311 East Newport Gap Pike.

According to police reports, at approximately 3:15 p.m., an unidentified Black male suspect entered the store and began selecting various retail items. He then approached the checkout counter as if to pay. Instead of completing a transaction, the suspect brandished a handgun and demanded cash from the register.

The store employee on duty refused to comply with the suspect's demands. Recognizing that the employee would not yield, the suspect gathered the merchandise he had selected and fled the store. Witnesses observed the suspect entering a silver SUV, which then drove away in an unknown direction.

No injuries were reported during the confrontation. The suspect is described as a Black male, and police are active in searching for any security footage or witness statements that could lead to his identification.
