Sainsbury's Darlington Target of Repeated Knife-Point Robberies
A Darlington supermarket has been targeted by knife-wielding robbers in a series of late-night raids that have left shop staff deeply shaken.
The supermarket, identified as a local Sainsbury's branch, was first hit by a late-night robbery in December 2024. During that incident, a suspect brandishing a knife threatened members of staff on duty before fleeing the scene with a quantity of cash from the tills.
Second Armed Robbery Within Months
The store was targeted again in a similar fashion, marking the second time employees were subjected to knife-point threats. In this subsequent incident, robbers once again demanded cash, forcing workers to hand over money before escaping into the night. Police cordoned off the area immediately following the incident to conduct inquiries.
Community Concern and Security Measures
The repeat nature of these armed robberies has sparked significant concern among Darlington residents and retail workers. Police have increased patrols around supermarket locations in the area and are working closely with store management to review security measures, including CCTV and panic alarm systems.
Durham Constabulary is calling on any witnesses or individuals with information regarding the identity of the suspects to contact the police immediately.
