Hull Rioter Jailed for Three Years After Looting O2 Mobile Shop

A man who participated in the looting of an O2 mobile phone store during the violent Hull riots has been sentenced to three years in prison. The custodial sentence was handed down at Hull Crown Court as police continue to prosecute participants of the civil unrest that occurred on 3 August 2024.

The court was shown footage of the defendant entering the damaged Jameson Street store after its windows had been smashed by rioters. Inside, the looter targeted high-value electronic items and mobile handsets. Humberside Police identified him using clear CCTV and social media broadcasts. The presiding judge emphasized that opportunistic stealing under the cover of public disorder is an extremely serious offence, stating that a significant prison sentence was necessary to maintain public order and deter future criminal actions.
