Two Men Charged with Burglary and Assaulting Officer at Northampton Shopping Centre

NORTHAMPTON — Two men have been officially charged following a major police response to a break-in at a Northampton shopping centre on February 8, 2024.

Officers were dispatched to the commercial complex following reports of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, police encountered the suspects, who attempted to flee the scene. During the subsequent struggle to detain them, one officer was assaulted, suffering minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

The suspects, both adult males, have been charged with burglary and assaulting an emergency worker. They are scheduled to appear in court in the coming days. Northamptonshire Police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on violence against officers, stating, "Our staff come to work to protect the public and should never have to face violence or abuse while doing their jobs."
