Balaclava-Clad Suspect Launches Early-Morning Ram-Raid on North Yorkshire Co-op

An active investigation has been launched in North Yorkshire following a destructive ram-raid at a local Co-op store. A suspect concealed by a balaclava used a vehicle to smash through the front of the retail premises, causing significant structural damage before stealing cash and a quantity of alcohol.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, waking nearby residents who reported hearing a loud collision. According to preliminary police reports, the suspect backed a vehicle repeatedly into the store's glass entrance, breaching the security shutters. Once inside, the intruder bypassed internal security measures to target the till area and high-value alcohol displays.

Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after the suspect fled. Forensic investigators have been sweeping the site for physical evidence, and structural engineers were called to assess the stability of the damaged storefront. The local business community has expressed growing concerns over the vulnerability of commercial properties to such targeted, high-damage raids.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing to the public for information, particularly requesting dashcam footage from motorists who were driving in the vicinity during the early hours, or any residents who may have noticed suspicious vehicles idling near the store prior to the incident.
