Antioch Grocery Store Robbery Ends in Police Shooting After Officer Trapped in Getaway Car

ANTIOCH, CA — A robbery response at an Antioch Food Maxx grocery store escalated into a life-threatening situation when an officer became trapped inside a suspect's getaway car, ultimately resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

According to police accounts, officers responded to reports of an active robbery at the grocery store. As they arrived, they attempted to block the suspect's vehicle. During the struggle to arrest the driver, an officer became partially stuck inside the open door of the getaway car as the suspect accelerated. Fearing for their life and safety, the trapped officer fired their service weapon, hitting the suspect.

The vehicle came to a stop shortly after, and the suspect was taken into custody before being transported to a local hospital. Newly released bodycam video shows the intensity of the moment the officer was dragged. An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office and the Antioch Police Department.
