Two Teens Arrested After Instagram Meetup in Boynton Beach Escalates to Armed Robbery

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — Two teenagers are in custody after an arranged meeting to sell an item via Instagram ended in an armed robbery, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department (BBPD). The victim had agreed to meet the suspects in a public space to complete the transaction but was instead held at gunpoint.

According to police reports, the victim arranged the meetup through Instagram, expecting a standard buyer-seller interaction. Upon arriving at the designated location in Boynton Beach, the two suspects confronted the victim. Instead of presenting the item for sale, one of the teens pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's personal belongings, including cash and electronics.

Following a rapid response by Boynton Beach officers and detectives, the two teenage suspects were located nearby and arrested without incident. The stolen items were successfully recovered, along with the firearm used during the robbery. BBPD has issued a public reminder advising residents to utilize designated 'safe exchange zones,' such as police department parking lots, for all internet-based transactions to prevent similar dangerous situations.
