Nearly $1,000 in coins stolen from Burlington business, police say

BURLINGTON, Vermont — An unusual burglary has prompted an investigation in Burlington, Vermont, after a local business reported the theft of a large quantity of loose change. The incident, which occurred in early January 2025, involved the theft of nearly $1,000 in coins.

According to the business owner, the suspect broke in overnight by forcing entry through a rear door. Once inside, the intruder bypasses larger merchandise and focused on a collection of coins and cash boxes containing a significant amount of quarters, dimes, and nickels.

Police believe the suspect may attempt to convert the stolen coins using local coin-cashing kiosks or bank deposit machines. Businesses and financial institutions in the area have been advised to keep a lookout for individuals attempting to exchange large amounts of loose change. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby areas to identify the suspect.
