Charleston Dollar General Manager Staged Johns Island Robbery for Bail Money, Police Say

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. — What initially began as a standard police response to a reported retail robbery has resulted in the arrest of a Dollar General manager in Charleston. Investigators allege that the store manager fabricated the entire crime in order to obtain money for bail.

As detectives conducted a follow-up investigation, several inconsistencies began to emerge in the store manager's account of the event. Security camera footage and internal records did not align with the initial report of an external robbery. Upon further questioning, authorities determined that the incident had been coordinated internally.
