Tragedy in Southwest Charlotte: 4-Year-Old Jayce Edwards Killed by Shots Fired into Home During Car Theft
CHARLOTTE, NC โ A southwest Charlotte community is in mourning after a 4-year-old boy, Jayce Edwards, was shot and killed while sleeping in his bed during an attempted car theft outside his home.
The shooting took place around 6:00 a.m. on Cigar Court in the Steele Creek area. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, suspects were attempting to steal a Dodge Charger parked outside the residence. During the theft attempt, gunshots were fired directly into the townhouse, striking the young boy inside. Jayce was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following an intense investigation, CMPD arrested and charged four suspects with murder: Marquise Geurrier (24), Angelo Hudson (20), Jordan Davis (23), and Anthony Abel (18). Investigators linked the suspects to the scene using surveillance footage and evidence found in a stolen Dodge Durango abandoned nearby. Authorities revealed that the shooting was part of a larger, multi-county crime spree involving stolen vehicles.
The senseless tragedy has devastated Jayceโs family, who were already grieving the loss of the boy's mother to cancer earlier in the year. Neighbors and community leaders have expressed outrage and called for stronger measures to curb auto thefts and gun violence in the city.
CMPD Chief addressed the public, calling the incident 'heinous and completely unacceptable' and reassuring residents that detectives are working tirelessly alongside prosecutors to ensure justice is served for Jayce and his family.
