Thieves Break Into Smoke Shop in Denver's Santa Fe Arts District
DENVER, Colorado โ The owner of a popular smoke shop in Denver's historic Santa Fe Arts District is speaking out after a devastating overnight burglary left the business in ruins. The shop owner described the discovery of the break-in as an incredibly painful experience, expressing deep distress over the violation of their workspace.
The incident occurred during the early hours of February 25, 2024, when suspects forced their way through the shop's entry. Once inside, the perpetrators quickly ransacked the display cases, stealing valuable inventory, electronics, and cash from the register, while causing significant structural damage to the shop's interior.
'The Worst Feeling Ever'
For the shop's owner, the impact of the burglary extends far beyond the immediate financial losses. 'It was the worst feeling I had ever felt,' the owner said, recounting the moment they walked into the store to find glass shattered and products strewn across the floor. 'You build something with your own hands, day in and day out, and to have someone just tear it apart in minutes is heartbreaking.'
The Santa Fe Arts District, known for its vibrant community of galleries, local boutiques, and creative spaces, has seen a recent uptick in concern over property crimes, prompting local merchants to call for increased police presence and community watch programs.
Investigation and Community Support
Denver Police Department investigators have visited the scene to gather evidence, search for latent fingerprints, and request surveillance footage from adjacent properties. No suspects have been publicly identified at this stage.
In response to the crime, neighboring shop owners and local residents have visited the smoke shop to offer moral support and help clean up the debris. A community-led effort is underway to help the shop cover security upgrades, including reinforced gates and updated security cameras, to prevent future incidents.
