Edmond Business Targeted in Destructive Smash-and-Grab Burglary

EDMOND, Oklahoma — Police are investigating an early morning smash-and-grab burglary at a local Edmond business that left the store with extensive property damage and a missing cash register.

The Break-In

According to the business owners and responding officers, the incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when the establishment was closed. The suspect or suspects used a heavy object to shatter the glass front entrance of the store. Once inside, the perpetrators quickly bypassed merchandise displays, targeted the checkout counter, and forcibly removed the entire cash register containing an undisclosed amount of currency.

Police Launch Investigation

Edmond Police arrived shortly after the store's security alarm was triggered, but the suspects had already fled the scene. Detectives have recovered surveillance footage from the store's internal security cameras as well as nearby commercial properties. Investigators are working to identify the vehicle used in the getaway and determine if this burglary is part of a broader trend of commercial smash-and-grabs in the area.

The business owners expressed frustration over the destruction, noting that the cost to repair the shattered storefront and replace the register system could exceed the value of the stolen cash. Business owners in the retail strip have been advised to keep their registers empty and open overnight to deter similar incidents.
