Another Wealthy Street Shop Burgled in Grand Rapids, Just One Week After Bakery Break-in

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan โ€” Business owners along the vibrant Wealthy Street commercial corridor in Grand Rapids are raising alarm and calling for increased security after another local shop was burgled. The latest break-in occurred early Thursday morning, exactly one week after a nearby bakery was targeted by thieves.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD), officers responded to an alarm activation at a retail store on Wealthy Street SE. Upon arrival, officers discovered forced entry, with window glass shattered and merchandise stolen. While the value of the stolen goods has not been fully disclosed, business owners express frustration over the rising costs of physical repairs, which often outpace the value of the stolen stock itself.

The incident comes just seven days after a popular local bakery on the same street fell victim to a similar break-in. In that case, suspects shattered a glass door to gain entry under the cover of darkness, quickly targeting the cash register. Business owners are questioning whether the two incidents are linked, citing similarities in the timing and method of entry.

โ€œItโ€™s disheartening to see this happen to another neighbor,โ€ said one local boutique owner. โ€œWe work hard to build up this community, and to have storefronts damaged and burglarized within days of each other makes us feel vulnerable. We need more police presence at night.โ€

GRPD is currently reviewing surveillance footage from both businesses and surrounding traffic cameras. Investigators have urged anyone with information or additional security footage from the Wealthy Street area between midnight and 5:00 a.m. to contact the department or Silent Observer.
