Homeowner Killed, Suspect Wounded in Shootout During SW Houston Home Invasion on South Kirkwood

HOUSTON, Texas — A confrontation between a homeowner and an intruder escalated into a fatal shootout early Saturday morning at a residence in southwest Houston, leaving one man dead and another wounded and facing murder charges.

The incident occurred on February 21, 2026, at approximately 12:15 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road, near Carriage Hill Drive. According to the Houston Police Department, a resident inside the home heard glass shattering and realized someone was attempting to force entry. Fearing for their safety, the resident contacted 911 and called their spouse, asking him to return home immediately.

When the homeowner, a man in his 60s, arrived back at the residence, he confronted the intruder inside. An altercation ensued, quickly escalating into an exchange of gunfire. Both the homeowner and the suspect were struck during the shootout.

Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported both individuals to local hospitals. The homeowner succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The suspect, a man in his 40s, survived his injuries and remains in police custody under medical supervision, with murder charges pending against him.
