HPD Arrests 5 Suspects in Home Invasion Linked to South American Burglary Ring

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Police Department has arrested five individuals caught during a home invasion, with law enforcement sources identifying the suspects as members of an organized transnational crime ring originating from South America.

The arrests took place on March 31, 2026, following a rapid response by HPD officers to a residence in Houston. Police intercepted the suspects as they attempted to carry out the home invasion. While officials have not released the full names of the suspects, internal sources confirmed that the men are believed to be part of a Colombian burglary crew that has been targeting affluent neighborhoods.

The operation comes amid a broader federal and local crackdown on "South American Theft Groups" (SATGs) active across the United States. These crews are known for using advanced tactics—such as counter-surveillance, signal jammers to disrupt home security Wi-Fi systems, and targeted online research—to burglarize high-end homes and quickly liquidate high-value assets like jewelry, luxury goods, and cash.

Authorities are currently investigating whether these five suspects are linked to a string of more than 60 residential burglaries that have plagued the Houston metropolitan area over the past several months. HPD continues to work in coordination with federal agencies to dismantle these mobile burglary crews.
