Mother Holding Baby Fatally Shoots Home Invader on Hadrian Drive in Joliet

JOLIET, IL — A tense and terrifying home invasion on Joliet's west side ended with the death of the intruder after a mother, holding her baby, fatally shot the suspect in self-defense, police confirmed.

The incident occurred on August 16, 2025, in the 7000-block of Hadrian Drive. According to Joliet Police, a male suspect forced his way into the residence. Faced with an immediate threat to herself and her infant child, the mother drew a firearm and discharged it, striking the intruder.

Emergency medical services and police officers arrived on the scene shortly after. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, neither the mother nor her baby sustained physical injuries during the harrowing encounter.

Following the shooting, an investigation into the suspect's identity and background revealed an extensive criminal history. Court records show that the deceased intruder had multiple prior convictions for burglary and other property crimes. Authorities indicated that the home invasion appeared to be a targeted or forced entry, and the mother's actions are currently being reviewed as a clear case of self-defense.
