Joliet Teenager Linked to Subway Armed Robbery on Essington Road and String of Local Thefts

JOLIET, IL — An investigation into an armed robbery at a Subway restaurant on Essington Road has led Joliet police to link a local teenager to a string of recent criminal activities across the city, including incidents at Slammers Stadium and a grocery store.

The initial incident occurred on March 31, 2025, at the Subway restaurant located on Essington Road. According to police reports, a suspect entered the restaurant, brandished a weapon, and demanded cash from the employees before fleeing. Investigators worked to trace the suspect through surveillance video and physical evidence.

Months later, in December 2025, the Joliet Police Department announced that a teenage suspect had been identified and connected to the Subway heist. Furthermore, police revealed that the same youth is linked to several other high-profile robberies and thefts in the area. These include a robbery at a local grocery store and a crime at Slammers Stadium, home of the Joliet Slammers baseball team.

Due to the suspect's age, official identifying details have been restricted, but charges are being coordinated through juvenile justice channels. Police emphasized that solving the Essington Road Subway robbery was key to uncovering the broader pattern of juvenile offenses that had targeted local businesses and community venues throughout the year.
