Federal and Local Courts Advance Prosecutions in Major 2022 Lawrence Robbery Cases
LAWRENCE, Kansas โ The wheels of justice continue to turn in Douglas County as significant progress is reported in two high-profile robbery cases dating back to 2022. Federal and local authorities have secured prison sentences for one major heist and advanced prosecution in another violent residential invasion.
Federal Prison Sentences for Cellphone Store Robbery
In the first case, a federal judge has sentenced two individuals to federal prison for their roles in the armed robbery of a Lawrence cellphone retail store in 2022. During the incident, the perpetrators entered the store with firearms, threatened staff, and made off with more than $50,000 worth of high-end mobile devices and merchandise. Following an investigation by federal agents and Lawrence police, the suspects were apprehended, pleaded guilty, and have now received their formal prison terms.
Home-Invasion Suspect Ordered to Stand Trial
Separately, local prosecutors have made headway in the prosecution of a violent 2022 home-invasion robbery. A second male suspect has been officially ordered by a Douglas County judge to stand trial following a preliminary hearing where evidence was presented regarding his alleged involvement in the break-in. During the 2022 home invasion, armed individuals forced entry into a Lawrence residence, demanding valuables and terrorizing the occupants inside.
