Lexington Business Owners Seek Public Help to Identify Cash Register Thief
LEXINGTON, KY โ A local business owner in Lexington is pleading for the community's assistance in identifying an alleged burglar who was caught on surveillance camera breaking into their establishment and stealing a cash register in the early morning hours of Monday, December 15, 2025.
The break-in occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m., when the suspect approached the storefront. High-resolution surveillance footage shows the individual using a tool to smash the glass pane of the entrance. Once inside, the suspect bypassed display cases and went directly to the main counter. The burglar then ripped the cash register from its wiring. Ironically, the register was empty, as the business does not leave cash overnight. The suspect fled the scene on foot, carrying the empty register.
The business owner expressed deep frustration regarding the incident, emphasizing the financial and operational impact. โIt is incredibly disheartening to deal with this kind of property damage, especially during the busy holiday season,โ the owner remarked. โThe cost of replacing the shattered glass door and the register itself far outweighs any cash they hoped to find. We are hoping that someone in the neighborhood recognizes the suspect and contacts the police.โ
Lexington Police Department officers responded to the alarm shortly after the break-in, but the suspect had already vanished. The suspect is described as a medium-build individual wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, and light-colored sneakers. Investigators are currently reviewing security footage from adjacent properties to determine if the suspect had a getaway vehicle parked nearby.
Authorities urge anyone who might have seen suspicious activity or who can identify the person in the surveillance footage to contact the Lexington Police Department at (859) 258-3600. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020, where tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
