Omaha Teenager Arrested in Connection with $20,000 Lincoln Business Burglary
LINCOLN, Nebraska โ A commercial burglary in Lincoln has led to the arrest of an Omaha teenager, following a break-in that cost a local business owner an estimated $20,000 in stolen inventory and structural damage. The incident, which occurred early in the morning of May 14, 2024, has raised concerns among local merchants regarding interstate commercial theft rings.
According to the Lincoln Police Department, officers were dispatched to a retail shop in central Lincoln after a security alarm was triggered. When police arrived on the scene, they found the front entrance glass shattered and several display cases cleared of high-value merchandise. The owner later compiled a detailed loss report, valuing the stolen items and physical destruction at approximately $20,000.
Collaboration Leads to Apprehension
Investigators immediately began reviewing high-definition surveillance footage from the store and surrounding businesses. The cameras captured a vehicle arriving shortly before the alarm was triggered, from which multiple individuals emerged. By tracing the vehicle's registration and coordinating with the Omaha Police Department, investigators were able to identify and track down one of the primary suspects.
A 17-year-old male from Omaha was arrested on May 15, 2024. He has been charged as a juvenile with burglary, grand larceny, and criminal mischief. Police recovered a portion of the stolen merchandise during the arrest, though a significant amount remains missing.
โWe are working closely with regional agencies to determine if this suspect is linked to other commercial burglaries along the I-80 corridor,โ a Lincoln Police spokesperson said. โCross-jurisdictional crime requires a coordinated response, and we thank our partners in Omaha for their assistance.โ
