Louisville Comic Store Hopes to Catch Thanksgiving Thief with Super Humor

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A local comic book shop is turning to "super humor" and superhero-themed appeals in hopes of catching a thief who burglarized their business on Thanksgiving morning.

Thanksgiving Day Break-In

On the morning of November 27, 2025, Pop's Comics & Collectibles, situated on Hess Lane in Louisville, became the target of a commercial burglary. Security footage captured a dark SUV without license plates pulling up to the storefront at approximately 2:00 a.m. A suspect exited the vehicle wielding a large metal object, which they used to repeatedly bash the glass front door until it shattered. Once inside, the intruder made a beeline for the checkout counter, stole the cash register, and unsuccessfully attempted to access a secure back storage room before fleeing.

A Spree of Local Small Business Burglaries

Pop's Comics was not the only local establishment hit that holiday morning. Investigators believe the same suspect may have been involved in a string of holiday break-ins targeting at least three small businesses, including Comic Book World and another local retail store, Fat Rabbit. The owner of Pop's Comics shared that while the physical cash stolen was minimal, the cost of replacing the custom front entrance door is expected to exceed $1,000, representing a significant financial blow during the crucial holiday shopping season.

Fighting Crime with "Super Humor"

In response to the break-in, the owners of Pop's Comics decided to take a lighthearted, community-centric approach. They posted clips of the surveillance footage on social media along with witty, comic-book-style commentary, hoping the "super humor" would increase visibility and help someone recognize the suspect or the SUV. LMPD is currently investigating the Thanksgiving morning string of burglaries and has requested anyone with information to contact the department’s anonymous tip line.
