High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash on Wards Road; One Burglary Suspect Arrested

LYNCHBURG, VA — A chaotic series of early morning burglaries culminated in a high-speed police chase and a vehicle crash on Wards Road. The Lynchburg Police Department has taken one suspect into custody and is actively searching for additional individuals involved in the incidents that occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Back-to-Back Commercial Burglaries

According to police reports, officers responded to two related business burglaries that occurred in rapid succession between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. The first break-in was reported in the 1000 block of Misty Mountain Road, followed shortly by a second burglary in the 2000 block of Wards Road.

When officers arrived at the Wards Road business, they observed several suspects fleeing the scene in a newer model, dark-colored Kia sedan. Officers immediately initiated a vehicle pursuit.

Crash and Foot Pursuit

The pursuit was short-lived, lasting less than a minute. The driver of the Kia lost control of the vehicle, crashing directly into a light pole in the 4000 block of Wards Road. Following the collision, all occupants of the heavily damaged sedan fled on foot in different directions.

Officers established a perimeter and quickly apprehended one of the suspects. The remaining individuals managed to evade capture. The Lynchburg Police Department is continuing its investigation and urges local residents and business owners in the Wards Road area to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity.
