Intruder Shot by Homeowner in Pueblo Arrested Following Medical Release

PUEBLO, Colorado — The Pueblo Police Department has arrested a suspect who was shot by a homeowner during an attempted break-in on December 9, 2025.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours when a homeowner was awakened by the sound of an intruder forcing entry into their residence. The homeowner, fearing for their safety, retrieved a firearm and confronted the suspect, discharging a single round that struck the intruder. The suspect fled the scene but was located by responding officers a short distance away, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment under police guard. Upon being medically cleared and released, he was formally booked into the Pueblo County Jail on charges of first-degree criminal trespass, attempted burglary, and menacing. The homeowner is not facing charges at this time, as the shooting appears to fall under Colorado's 'Make My Day' law, which permits homeowners to use deadly force against unlawful intruders under specific conditions.
