Daishon Davis Sentenced to 24 Years in Prison for Rockford Schnucks Robbery and Attack
ROCKFORD, Ill. โ A local man has been sentenced to more than two decades in federal prison for his role in a violent armed robbery at a Rockford grocery store where an employee was brutally attacked with a hammer.
Daishon Davis, 22, was sentenced in May 2025 to 24 years in prison. The sentence stems from a high-profile incident that took place in February 2022 at the Schnucks grocery store located in the 3100 block of 11th Street in Rockford.
According to court documents and police reports, Davis and another individual entered the establishment with the intent to rob it. During the heist, the suspects confronted an employee. The confrontation escalated rapidly when the suspects drew a firearm and assaulted the worker. The employee was struck multiple times with a hammer and threatened with a gun, resulting in physical injuries that required medical attention.
The Rockford Police Department launched a comprehensive investigation, utilizing surveillance footage and witness statements to identify and apprehend Davis. The co-conspirator's case was handled separately in the local judicial system.
State prosecutors argued that the severe sentence was justified given the premeditated nature of the robbery and the gratuitous level of violence inflicted on an innocent retail worker. The judge agreed, noting that such acts of violence undermine the safety and security of local businesses and their staff. Davis will serve his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a period of mandatory supervised release.
