Organized Theft Ring Targets Sacramento Liquor Stores Using Modified Skirts
SACRAMENTO, California โ Family-owned liquor stores across the Sacramento metropolitan area are on high alert after a series of highly coordinated retail thefts. The perpetrators, described as a group of organized women, have successfully smuggled thousands of dollars worth of high-end alcohol out of local businesses using specialized, modified clothing.
The Skirt Smuggling Technique
According to reports from affected business owners and local law enforcement, the suspects wear long, flowing skirts that have been custom-tailored with heavy-duty internal pouches. These large pouches allow them to conceal multiple large bottles of premium liquor, or even entire cases, without affecting their outward appearance or gait. Store surveillance videos show the suspects walking out of the doors naturally while carrying thousands of dollars of stolen product beneath their garments.
Distraction Tactics and Heavy Losses
The group operates using sophisticated distraction techniques to disarm store staff. Typically, one or more members of the groupโsometimes accompanied by childrenโwill approach the front counter to ask the cashier detailed questions about high-priced tobacco, rare scotch, or medicine. While the employee's attention is diverted, the remaining members systematically clear high-end bottles from the shelves. Sunrise Food & Liquor in Gold River reported a loss of between $10,000 and $12,000 during a single ten-minute sweep. Another local retailer, 1 Stop Food & Liquor in Orangevale, was also targeted in a similar fashion, losing thousands in merchandise.
Community and Police Response
Sacramento-area business owners have begun actively sharing surveillance footage and photos of the suspects online to warn fellow merchants. Local law enforcement is currently investigating the pattern of thefts and urges anyone with information or additional surveillance footage to contact the Sheriff's Department.
