Two Charged in $290K Crash-and-Grab Heist at Union Square Dior Store
SAN FRANCISCO โ Two suspects face felony charges following a destructive crash-and-grab burglary at the luxury Christian Dior flagship retail store in Union Square, where merchandise valued at approximately $290,000 was stolen, the District Attorney's office announced.
The brazen incident unfolded early in the morning when a group of thieves rammed a vehicle directly through the storefront window of the high-end boutique. The impact caused significant structural damage to the retail facade, allowing perpetrators to quickly enter and sweep shelves of luxury handbags and accessories before fleeing in secondary vehicles.
Suspect Apprehended After Fleeing to Hawaii
Following a multi-agency investigation, law enforcement tracked down one of the key suspects, who had fled the mainland to Hawaii in an attempt to evade capture. The suspect was extradited back to San Francisco to face charges alongside another co-conspirator.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasized that commercial burglary of this scale will be prosecuted aggressively. "These organized retail thefts do not just hurt businesses; they damage the reputation and safety of our key commercial corridors," Jenkins said in a statement.
The Union Square retail district has been the target of several similar vehicle-ramming incidents, leading to increased calls for physical bollards and enhanced security presence to protect storefronts.
