Toms River smoke shop robber tried using zip ties on female employee

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A terrifying robbery unfolded at a Toms River smoke shop when a suspect attempted to bind a female employee using zip ties during a heist, local authorities reported. The police department has launched a full investigation into the incident and is appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the suspect's arrest.

According to law enforcement officials, the suspect entered the business during regular operating hours, initially appearing as a customer. However, the situation quickly escalated when he confronted the lone female employee working behind the counter. Producing zip ties, the suspect attempted to restrain the employee's hands, causing a physical struggle as the victim fought to defend herself.

Despite the employee's resistance, the suspect managed to access the register, grabbing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the premises on foot. The shaken employee was able to trigger the silent alarm shortly after the suspect exited. Toms River police officers arrived at the scene within minutes and searched the surrounding area, but the suspect had already fled the immediate vicinity.
