Active-Duty Soldier Returns to Louisville from Mission to Find Home Burglarized and Destroyed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. โ€” A Louisville soldier who recently returned from an active-duty military mission was met with a devastating homecoming. U.S. Army Sergeant Brandon Branch, who serves as a combat medic, discovered that his apartment had been broken into, ransacked, and essentially destroyed while he was away serving his country.

Sgt. Branch returned to Louisville on May 18, 2025, after a month-long mission. Expecting to rest and recuperate, he instead opened his front door to find his residence in complete disarray. Intruders had breached the home, leaving a trail of destruction in every room. They had stolen his furniture, high-value electronics, clothing, and essential household items.

Sentimental Losses and a Call for Help

More painful than the loss of his physical property was the theft and destruction of irreplaceable sentimental items, including military mementos and family treasures. The burglary left Sgt. Branch with almost nothing, forcing him to seek temporary housing and struggle to replace daily essentials.

"It's just sad," Branch told reporters, expressing his disbelief that someone would target his home while he was deployed. As a combat medic who previously served in high-risk zones, including Afghanistan where he survived a major airstrike in the Gaza Valley in 2014, Branch is no stranger to adversity. However, facing this level of violation in his own hometown was a different kind of blow.

Community Rallies to Support

In response to the incident, a community campaign was launched on GoFundMe on June 5, 2025, to help Sgt. Branch restock his home and replace his stolen gear. The campaign has received widespread support from fellow service members and local Louisville residents. LMPD is currently investigating the burglary, checking local pawn shops and neighborhood surveillance systems, and urges anyone with information to contact their anonymous tip line.
