Albany Woman Sentenced to Prison Following Attempted Armed Robbery of Pharmacy
ALBANY, NY โ A local woman has been sentenced to prison following a frightening attempted armed robbery at a neighborhood pharmacy. The incident, which took place during daylight hours, left staff members deeply shaken and led to immediate intervention by law enforcement.
According to court reports, 32-year-old Claire Alexandra Reid entered the Dog Rock Chemist pharmacy. She brandished a black steak knife and confronted two employees, demanding that they supply her with oxycodone, a highly restricted opioid pain medication. The pharmacy workers managed to trigger a silent alarm and stall the suspect until she eventually panicked and fled the premises empty-handed.
Police arrested Reid shortly after the incident. In court, she was sentenced to one year and 10 months of imprisonment for the attempted armed robbery. Following her sentencing, Reid faced additional legal trouble after being charged with a violent assault on another inmate while held at the Melaleuca Women's Prison, resulting in an additional four-month jail term added to her sentence.
Community pharmacy owners expressed relief at the sentence, emphasizing the vulnerability of healthcare workers who handle controlled substances. The judge noted that while substance abuse issues were a clear factor in the offense, the use of a weapon to threaten retail staff necessitated a custodial sentence to ensure public safety.
