Armed Man Arrested After Breaking Into Downtown Austin Restaurant Taquero Mucho

AUSTIN, Texas โ€” Austin police have arrested a man armed with a knife following a chaotic break-in at the popular downtown restaurant Taquero Mucho on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The suspect allegedly caused significant damage to the property and consumed alcohol from the premises.

According to police reports, officers responded to an active break-in at the pink-themed Mexican restaurant located on West Sixth Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man who had unlawfully entered the establishment. The suspect, who was carrying a knife, had destroyed various items inside the restaurant and consumed some of the establishment's liquor collection.

Law enforcement officers managed to safely de-escalate the situation and take the suspect into custody without further incident. The individual faces several charges, including burglary of a building, criminal mischief, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The restaurant management is currently assessing the extent of the damage to prepare for repairs.
