Armed Police Search for Suspects in Harehills Road Jewellers Ram-Raid
Detectives from West Yorkshire Police have launched a major appeal for information following a daring ram-raid and armed robbery at a prominent jewellery store in Harehills, Leeds. The incident, which triggered a significant deployment of armed response units, occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 4, 2024.
The Attack: Toyota RAV4 Used as Battering Ram
At approximately 18:30 BST, a gang of masked individuals targeted Mirpur Jewellers, situated on the busy Harehills Road. Witnesses recounted the shocking moment a silver Toyota RAV4 was driven directly into the storefront, shattering the glass facade and breaching the shop's security defenses.
Once inside, the suspects, armed with hammers, proceeded to aggressively smash glass display cabinets. They systematically grabbed various high-value items of jewellery before fleeing the scene, leaving a trail of destruction behind them.
Getaway and Police Mobilisation
The offenders abandoned the badly damaged Toyota RAV4 at the scene of the crash. According to police reports, they made their escape in a dark-coloured Audi that was waiting nearby. Armed police officers were rapidly deployed to the area to secure the scene and search the vicinity, but the suspects managed to evade capture and remain at large.
Fortunately, despite the violent nature of the raid, police confirmed that no shop staff or members of the public were injured during the incident.
Ongoing Police Appeal
West Yorkshire Police are conducting extensive enquiries to trace the getaway vehicle and identify the perpetrators. Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the ram-raid, saw the dark-coloured Audi fleeing the area, or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Leeds CID immediately.
