Armed Robbers Threaten Customers and Staff in Woodburn Road Shop Raid

CARRICKFERGUS, County Antrim — Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are investigating a terrifying armed robbery at a business establishment on Woodburn Road in Carrickfergus, which occurred on the night of Friday, April 19, 2024.

Threatened with Firearm and Knife

The incident unfolded at approximately 11:10 p.m. when two masked individuals entered the premises. The suspects confronted and threatened both shop employees and customers. One of the suspects appeared to be carrying a firearm, while the second suspect brandished a knife. The pair demanded money and fled the scene with a sum of cash.

Description details released by the police state that the first suspect was wearing a light-coloured tracksuit, a white puffa-style jacket, black trainers, a black balaclava, and gloves. The second suspect was described as wearing a black tracksuit, a black and white balaclava, and black gloves.

Police Arrest Suspect After Vehicle Stop

Following a prompt response by police patrol teams, officers intercepted a white Hyundai vehicle on Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus shortly after the robbery. A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. The suspect remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries, while search operations continue for the second suspect.

Appeal for Witnesses

The PSNI has appealed to anyone who was in the Woodburn Road or Prince Andrew Way areas on Friday night and observed suspicious activity, or who may have dash-cam footage of the incident or the fleeing vehicle, to contact detectives on 101. Anonymous reports can also be submitted to Crimestoppers.
