Armed robbery at a convenience store in Barnstaple

According to an article published by the BBC on 13 May 2025, a shop worker was threatened with a knife during a robbery at a Spar convenience store in Barnstaple. The incident occurred at the junction of Bear Street and Boutport Street before 21:50 BST on Saturday.

The BBC reports that the offender fled the scene with four bottles of Smirnoff vodka. Devon and Cornwall Police have described the suspect as a white male, aged approximately 18 to 25, standing about 5ft 6in tall and of slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black zip-up hooded jumper, dark trousers, black shoes, a blue and white face covering, and a grey baseball cap. He was also carrying a black duffle bag.

Police are currently appealing for anyone with private CCTV or doorbell camera footage from the area to come forward. Inspector Andy Wills noted that while such incidents are rare in the region, they have a significant impact on victims.
