Armed robbery at a newsagents in Dunstable
According to an article published on 16 December 2025 by Itv, a masked man has been sentenced to prison following an attempted robbery at a newsagents in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. The incident occurred on 24 June on Luton Road.
Itv reports that the offender, 37-year-old Darren Campbell, entered the shop and threatened to shoot a staff member while brandishing what appeared to be a pistol and an ammunition clip. Following the incident, the perpetrator fled the scene in a silver Vauxhall Mokka. Campbell was later identified through CCTV footage and data from a tagged curfew he was serving at the time.
On 5 December, Campbell appeared at Luton Crown Court, where he was sentenced to three years and three months for attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. He received an additional 11-month sentence for multiple burglaries and fraud offences. Detective Constable Freya Williams described the incident as a terrifying ordeal for the victim. Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and ensure staff are trained in emergency response procedures to enhance workplace safety.
