Armed robbery at a shop in Cumbernauld

According to an article published by Stv on 22 December 2025, a man has been sentenced to five years in prison following an armed robbery at a Spar store in Abronhill, Cumbernauld. Stv reports that Graeme McCreadie carried out the raid on 20 June 2025.

According to Stv, McCreadie entered the shop and brandished what appeared to be a firearm at staff members after being told he would not be served. One employee fled the scene, while another handed over £40 in cash. Although McCreadie later told police he had used a toy gun, the weapon was never recovered by authorities. Ballistics officers reviewing CCTV footage were unable to confirm if the item was an imitation or a live firearm.

McCreadie, who was already known to staff, pled guilty to assault and robbery at the High Court in Glasgow. The court heard that he had 64 prior convictions. Lord Arthurson imposed the five-year custodial sentence following the incident.
